Robotics in itself carries a pedigree unparalleled to other products when it comes to implementing and integrating the latest technology. I guess with the advent of newer technology, seems like every single product wants a taste of it in their space. A classic example would be in the mobile phone world, every manufacturer wants the latest piece of tech juice in their portfolio of upcoming products. Robotics is no different, the possibilities are endless!
The need to reduce cost and increase efficiency is the main game in Robotics. Introducing technologies to a robot that cater to these aspects seem like the holy grail in developing robots of any kind.
At Systemantics, we took a step back to figure out first and foremost what are some of the major pain points the customer faces with current technologies available in the robot market. One of the major hurdles in the customer’s mind is the capital cost and running cost of the machine. There is a fine line between having the best quality and increasing capital cost multifold. As manufacturers, there is nothing like finding the balance between these two. Implementing the latest technology is of utmost importance to keep up with the times and to sustain for the future.
Here is a snippet of the latest technologies we have implemented in-house to improve efficiency, reliability, quality and bring down running costs. One of the first technologies we implemented is the android app for teaching the robot. We use a simple standard tablet which consists of a user friendly interface to control and teach the robot to perform any given operation.
The second most significant technology we integrated our robot is the distributed control architecture. This technology provides for a single cable of wire that runs from the control cabinet to the entirety of the robot, connecting all the joints and motors. This technology reduces the clutter of having many wires inside the robot. In turn, this significantly increases reliability and simplifies maintenance and support time.
Another technology we’ve integrated is the Cloud/IOT module. Industry 4.0 is a buzz word that’s been floating around for awhile now. This enables the shopfloor to be operating independently with machines and robot working in perfect harmony without human assistance. We have catered to this need for the future shopfloor by having our robots that can be monitored remotely from any place which requires a simple internet connection. This feature allows the customer to control the robot and change programs when not in the vicinity of the robot. Everything from cycle information, programs, production rates, robot health and status can be shown in a beautiful display.
Collision detection is another technology that enables the robot to sense an object in the way of the robot. The robot has been designed in such a way that any object the robot collides immediately halts the robot and suspends all movements. Once space is cleared, the robot can resume the operation using the simple controls of the tab.
The Control cabinet designed by our team is smaller than the standard available in the market. This optimizes space. We decided that size really plays the role in keeping up with the times. The operator emergency pendant connected to the robot developed in-house is also a proprietary integral technology that is separated from the teaching tab. This allows the operator to start, stop, resume, and also can be used in case of emergency. The emergency pendent is separate from the tab, reduces clutter and reduces the complexity of having a screen.
